Unstable weather conditions expected across Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued multiple yellow weather alerts for late September 2026 due to an upper-level cold air mass moving over the Eastern Mediterranean. Between September 27 and September 30, the island has experienced variable cloudiness, isolated thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale. Precipitation intensity has been forecast at 35 to 50 mm per hour in affected areas, with warnings for potential hail.

Temperatures are currently running below seasonal averages, with highs in Nicosia reaching approximately 30°C and significantly cooler conditions in the Troodos mountains at 17°C. Meteorologist Tasos Ierodiakonou reported that this unsettled weather pattern is likely to persist through Saturday, October 3. While precipitation was initially concentrated in western and northern regions, the unstable conditions are expected to spread across the island periodically.
