Yellow weather alert issued for Cyprus due to storms

The Republic of Cyprus meteorological service has issued a yellow weather warning due to expected unstable weather conditions across the island. The alert is active from 21:00 on Sunday, September 27, until 06:00 on Monday, September 28. Authorities warn of isolated heavy thunderstorms, which are expected to begin on the western coast before spreading to other regions. Rainfall intensity may reach between 35 and 50 millimeters per hour, with the possibility of hail.

Temperature levels are expected to drop below seasonal norms, with further cooling by 3 to 4 degrees forecasted through Wednesday, September 29. On Sunday, daytime temperatures in Nicosia are expected to reach +30 degrees, while coastal areas like Limassol, Larnaca, and Ayia Napa will see around +28 degrees, with Paphos at +27 and the Troodos mountains at +17. Southern coastal winds are anticipated to strengthen, reaching 6-7 on the Beaufort scale. Nighttime temperatures will descend to +18 degrees inland and +20 on the coast, falling as low as +9 in the Troodos mountains.
