Cyprus national youth volleyball teams conclude international tournaments in Austria and Slovenia

The Cyprus U20 Women's national volleyball team finished their competition in Maribor, Slovenia, on September 27, 2026, by placing 8th after a 3-0 defeat against Austria. Austria dominated the match, securing the sets with scores of 25-18, 25-17, and an uncompleted third set, leaving Cyprus without a victory in this final classification match.

Simultaneously, the Cyprus U20 Men's national volleyball team competed in Steinbrunn, Austria, in a decisive match for 5th place, which offered a qualification ticket for the 2027 European Championship. Despite a spirited performance and an initial lead after taking the first set 28-26, the team narrowly lost 2-3 to Luxembourg. Coach Loizos Loizou’s squad, characterized by its youth and relative lack of experience compared to international peers, narrowly missed the opportunity to advance to the next phase of the championship. The team's resilience throughout the tournament, however, was noted as a positive indicator for the future development of the sport in Cyprus.
