Recent Russian strikes across Ukraine result in multiple casualties and significant destruction

Over the weekend of September 27-28, 2026, Russian forces launched a series of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, resulting in numerous casualties and damage to critical infrastructure. On September 27, eight people were reported killed, including a 16-year-old in Sumy and victims in Kyiv, Bucha, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa. Additional attacks throughout the period impacted data centers and telecommunications facilities, further straining the nation's internet infrastructure.

On the morning of September 28, a Russian guided aerial bomb struck a residential building in the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv, injuring at least 22 people, including eight children. Simultaneously, a drone strike hit the historic National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv, resulting in one confirmed death and three injuries. Earlier reports noted drone strikes on a market and a gas station in the Kyiv region. These attacks follow a week of intensified aerial warfare, during which Russia reportedly deployed over 2,000 long-range drones, 1,650 aerial bombs, and 38 missiles.

Rescue operations are currently underway in Kyiv and Kharkiv to locate potential victims trapped under debris. The attacks occurred shortly after Moscow reiterated its commitment to achieving its military objectives despite international pressure.
