Lufthansa flight makes emergency landing after power bank catches fire

A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, operating flight LH1170 from Frankfurt to Lisbon, was forced to make an emergency landing in Lyon, France, on the evening of Saturday, September 26, 2026. The diversion was prompted by a fire involving a passenger's portable power bank on board the aircraft.

According to a Lufthansa spokesperson, the cabin crew successfully contained the fire by placing the device into a specialized fire-resistant bag for lithium batteries. Following the landing, which occurred shortly before 23:00 Greek time, all individuals were safely evacuated and accommodated in a local hotel overnight before resuming their travel to Lisbon the following day.
