Donald Trump reportedly invited China to purchase U.S. military hardware

United States Ambassador to China David Perdue revealed in a recent interview with Fox News that President Donald Trump has suggested to Chinese leader Xi Jinping that Beijing could also purchase American military hardware. This proposal was reportedly made as a gesture to ease Chinese concerns regarding ongoing U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. The ambassador did not specify the exact date when this conversation occurred but emphasized that the topic of weapons sales to Taiwan is a recurring subject of discussion between the two leaders during their meetings.

The U.S. position on arms sales to Taiwan remains unchanged, with officials confirming that further transactions are being discussed. In December, the U.S. administration authorized significant sales to the island, prompting stern warnings from Beijing. In June, China explicitly cautioned Taiwan against pursuing independence through U.S. support or military force. While the U.S. continues to provide defense equipment to Taipei, the administration maintains that it is open to expanding its military commercial relationships globally, including with China, to balance its strategic interests and de-escalate regional tensions.
