Cyprus climbs to 23rd place in 2026 Global Retirement Index
Cyprus has advanced to 23rd place in the 2026 Global Retirement Index (GRI) published by Natixis Investment Managers, improving from its 25th position in 2025. The nation’s overall score increased by two percentage points, reaching 68 per cent, cementing its status as one of the Mediterranean's most dynamic environments for retirees.
The improvement was primarily driven by the financial sub-index, where Cyprus climbed 12 places to rank 19th globally. This success is attributed to a 13-percentage-point increase in its tax score, placing it eighth worldwide in that specific category, alongside improved control over inflationary pressures and more favorable interest rates. Conversely, the country experienced a decline in its health sub-index compared to previous years, which moderated its total potential growth in the rankings.
The index evaluates retirement conditions across four key pillars: retirement finances, wellbeing, health, and quality of life. Within these, Cyprus recorded scores of 67 per cent for finances, 66 per cent for wellbeing, 80 per cent for health, and 61 per cent for quality of life. Globally, Norway maintained its leading position for the second consecutive year, followed by Ireland and the Netherlands.
