Relic of Saint Mary Magdalene arrives in Cyprus

The Holy Hand of Saint Mary Magdalene is scheduled to arrive in Cyprus on Monday, September 28, 2026. This significant religious relic, usually housed at the Simonopetra Monastery on Mount Athos, is being transported to the island for the first time to provide spiritual support to the local faithful. It is accompanied by a fragment of the True Cross.

The official reception is set for 6:00 p.m. on Kyrenias Avenue, led by the Metropolitan of Paphos, Gregorios. The relic will be carried by Hieromonk Gervasios, along with a delegation of fathers from Mount Athos. Following a procession, the relic will be placed for public veneration at the Church of Apostle Andrew in Platy, Aglantzia. The church will remain open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. throughout the visit.

The relic is scheduled to remain at the Church of Apostle Andrew for public access until Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. This event marks a milestone for the local Orthodox community, as it represents the first time this specific relic from Simonopetra Monastery has been brought to Cyprus.
