State of emergency declared in Bangkok following severe flooding

Authorities in Bangkok have declared a state of emergency across all 50 districts following persistent heavy rainfall that began on Thursday. The flooding has caused canals to overflow and submerged major roads, leaving over 80,000 residents trapped in their homes.

Nationwide, the floods have affected 41 provinces since September 16, resulting in at least eight deaths and impacting more than 580,000 homes. The interior ministry has mobilized relief efforts, including mobile kitchens and boat transport, to provide daily meals to displaced residents. Officials estimate the economic damage from the disaster will reach at least 11 billion baht. Efforts to reach those in need are ongoing as reservoirs continue to swell, prompting evacuation orders in eastern provinces.
