European Researchers’ Night marks 20th anniversary in Cyprus

The European Researchers’ Night 2026 took place on Friday, September 25, at the Cyprus State Fair in Nicosia. Organised by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), the event celebrated its 20th anniversary in the country with the theme “CELEBRATE 2.0 – Two Decades of STEAM-Powered Inspiration.” The celebration successfully brought together researchers, academics, students, and innovative companies, highlighting the evolution of science and research over the past two decades.

The event attracted more than 5,000 visitors, including over 2,000 school pupils who participated in organised tours. Attendees had access to more than 75 exhibition stands and engaged in over 80 interactive activities such as experiments, workshops, simulations, games, and quizzes. A notable component of the programme was the Science Unfold 2026 student competition, which focused on the role of innovation in history. The initiative underscored the importance of the STEAM approach—integrating science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics—to address contemporary societal and practical challenges.

This annual event serves as the primary platform for bridging the gap between the public and the scientific community in Cyprus. By providing direct access to professionals in the innovation sector, the RIF aims to foster a culture of curiosity and promote the significance of research in national development.
