Recent fire incidents across Cyprus districts
Several fire incidents were reported across Cyprus between September 29 and October 1, 2026. On the evening of September 29, a large fire broke out in a reed bed within the Alikos riverbed near Agios Sozomenos, Nicosia. The fire, which was visible from a distance, scorched approximately nine decares of vegetation, including reeds and trees. It was brought under control by 21:37 with the support of four fire trucks from Nicosia stations, the Forestry Department, and volunteer groups such as Atlas-Dias, Blue Heart, and SupportCY.
On October 1, multiple additional incidents occurred. A forest fire at 'Kokkinopezoula' near Mitsero, Nicosia, burned one decare of wild grass before being contained. Simultaneously, a significant fire broke out in the 'Vatouthkia' area near Tala, Paphos, where strong winds hindered efforts, requiring four fire trucks and four aerial assets. Furthermore, another forest fire in the 'Eliouthkia' area of Koili, Paphos, destroyed three hectares of wild vegetation before being controlled. Separately, emergency services in Limassol responded to thick smoke originating from a restaurant chimney fire on Paphos Street. Authorities are currently investigating the causes of these incidents.
