Recent series of wildfire incidents across Cyprus

Between September 28 and 29, 2026, Cyprus experienced several wildfire incidents across different districts. On September 28, a fire broke out in a residential area between Pissouri and Alektora in the Limassol district. The blaze, which affected dry grass, wild vegetation, and trees, was brought under control by local fire services with the support of British Bases and earthmoving equipment. According to official reports, 2.9 hectares of land were burned in various incidents across the island within a 24-hour period.

On September 29, additional fires were reported in Latsi (Paphos district), near the community of Kellia (Larnaca district), Orounta (Nicosia district), and Agios Sozomenos. The Latsi fire was controlled quickly by the Forestry Department and the Fire Service, while the Orounta blaze was attributed to electrical sparking from power lines. In total, the Fire Service responded to 19 fire-related calls in one day. Authorities have launched investigations into the causes of these fires, and cleanup operations, as well as damage assessments, are ongoing in the affected areas.
