Limassol municipality launches anti-mosquito campaign

The Municipality of Limassol has launched an extensive campaign aimed at protecting public health by reducing mosquito breeding sites throughout the city. As of late September 2026, authorities are conducting systematic inspections of open public spaces in close cooperation with state health services to identify and eliminate stagnant water, which serves as a primary environment for mosquito larvae development.

Key measures include the drainage of standing water and the application of approved biological treatments where necessary. Furthermore, municipal crews are actively clearing wild vegetation and removing discarded objects that can trap water. These efforts are intended to mitigate the risk of mosquito-borne health issues within the urban environment.

The municipality has issued an urgent call for citizen cooperation, emphasizing that private property owners must also take responsibility. Residents are advised to monitor and drain water from common household items, including flowerpot saucers, buckets, barrels, old tires, and gutters. The city authorities have established a direct contact line through the Public Health and Cleaning Department for citizens to report areas with high mosquito activity for professional intervention.
