Two more bodies recovered from Filo Jet wreck off Kyrenia

On September 28, 2026, authorities reported the recovery of two additional bodies near the site of the Filo Jet shipwreck off the coast of Kyrenia. According to Unal Ustel, the leader of the self-proclaimed administration in the northern part of Cyprus, the remains were located approximately one kilometer from the vessel at a depth of 570 meters during ongoing underwater search operations.

The recovery effort is part of a broader, month-long operation following the initial maritime disaster that occurred on August 30. With these latest findings, the official death toll from the tragedy has risen to 17, while 11 passengers remain missing. Ustel confirmed that DNA testing has commenced to identify the recovered bodies and determine if they match the list of missing persons. Once these medical examinations are concluded, the authorities intend to notify the families of the victims directly.

The administration has pledged to continue search efforts in the seabed around the wreckage until all missing passengers are accounted for. Despite previous reports suggesting no further bodies remained within the vessel itself, search activities are expanding into the surrounding areas of the seabed to locate the remaining missing individuals.
