Eurostat data on alcohol consumption trends in Cyprus and the EU for 2025

According to data released by Eurostat on Monday, only 1.9% of the population aged 16 and over in Cyprus reported daily alcohol consumption in 2025, a figure significantly lower than the EU average of 4.8%. Weekly consumption in Cyprus was recorded at 16.1%, while monthly consumption reached 22.1%, slightly exceeding the EU averages of 19.2% and 21.8%, respectively. The report highlights that a large segment of the EU population, specifically 33.5%, abstained from alcohol entirely during the year, while 20.7% consumed it less than once a month.

The findings reveal clear demographic trends, showing that men consume alcohol more frequently than women across all categories; for instance, 56.5% of men reported drinking at least once a month compared to 35.9% of women. Furthermore, there is a strong correlation between age and daily consumption habits. While only 0.8% of individuals aged 16 to 24 reported daily intake, this percentage rises to 8.9% among those aged 65 and older. These figures provide a detailed snapshot of European drinking habits, indicating that while daily alcohol consumption is relatively low in Cyprus, the island aligns closely with broader regional patterns regarding occasional usage.
