Eurostat reports on alcohol consumption patterns in Cyprus and the EU

Data published by Eurostat on September 28, 2026, reveals significant differences in alcohol consumption patterns between Cyprus and the European Union for the year 2025. In Cyprus, only 1.9% of residents aged 16 and older reported daily alcohol consumption, which is notably lower than the EU average of 4.8%. Weekly alcohol consumption in Cyprus was recorded at 16.1%, while monthly consumption reached 22.1%. By comparison, the EU-wide averages for weekly and monthly consumption were 19.2% and 21.8%, respectively.

Demographic trends highlight that alcohol consumption is more prevalent among men than women across all frequency categories, with 56.5% of men consuming alcohol at least once a month compared to 35.9% of women. Furthermore, the report identifies a direct correlation between age and daily consumption habits. While only 0.8% of individuals aged 16 to 24 reported daily intake, this percentage increases significantly among the population aged 65 and older. Across the EU, 20.7% of the relevant population drinks alcohol less than once a month, while 33.5% either abstained completely or did not consume alcohol at all during the 2025 reference period.
