Panagrotikos union calls for VAT reduction on agricultural fuel

Anastasis Giapanis, General Secretary of the Panagrotikos agricultural organization, issued a formal statement on September 28, 2026, urging the government to immediately reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on agricultural fuel. He proposed the implementation of a potential zero-rate VAT policy as long as production costs remain under significant pressure. Giapanis highlighted the critical need for rapid intervention to ensure farmers can begin operations with lower costs and greater financial security. The union argues that producers are unable to easily pass the rising costs of fuel onto consumer prices. Consequently, the organization is calling on the government to evaluate any additional targeted measures that could effectively reduce the price of fuel used exclusively for agricultural purposes, ensuring the continued productivity of the sector.
