Cyprus government expands housing policy with new land allocation schemes

The Cypriot Ministry of Interior has officially launched a new housing scheme for the allocation of government-owned plots to families based on specific income criteria. This initiative, approved by the Council of Ministers on September 16, 2026, and formally published on September 18, 2026, allows eligible citizens to apply for currently unallocated plots resulting from past state land division projects. Applications are to be submitted to the relevant District Administrations by the deadline of November 30, 2026.

This move represents a significant pillar of the government's broader 2026 housing strategy, which includes various incentives such as grants for home construction or renovation, the utilization of family property for second homes, and the 'Renovate–Rent' scheme. Additionally, the 6th call for the Housing Plan for the Revitalization of Mountainous, Acritic, and Disadvantaged Areas remains open, with applications accepted through December 31, 2027. These programs aim to increase the total housing stock and provide affordable living options across different regions of the country.
