Cyprus ministry launches housing scheme for state land allocation

The Ministry of Interior of Cyprus has officially opened the application process for a new housing scheme designed to allocate unallocated state plots to families. This initiative, which was approved by the Council of Ministers on September 16, 2026, and published on September 18, 2026, aims to improve housing accessibility by leveraging existing plots resulting from previous state land subdivisions.

Interested applicants must submit their forms to the relevant district administration office corresponding to the location of the land. The deadline for all applications is November 30, 2026. Eligibility for the plots is determined based on specific income and social criteria established by the government. The Ministry has clarified that this initial phase involves the announcement of the first notifications by district, with further notifications expected as additional groundwork in various communities is completed.

Beyond these current allocations, the scheme also includes provisions for the future creation of new plots through additional subdivisions of state land in participating communities. This initiative is part of a broader government strategy, revised throughout 2026, which includes various tools such as grants for home construction or renovation, incentives for mountain areas, and the "Renovate-Rent" program, aimed at increasing the national housing stock.
