Eighty-seven unsafe products identified in the EU market

During the week ending September 28, 2026, authorities across the European Union identified 87 products that pose risks to consumer health and safety. These items were reported through the EU Safety Gate system to ensure consumer protection across member states. Among these, one specific product—a slime toy of Chinese origin—was identified directly by the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service.

To address the potential risks, the 87 items were distributed among various Cypriot government departments for market surveillance. The Consumer Protection Service is handling 16 items, including the one identified locally. Other allocations include 26 products to the Department of Electromechanical Services, 15 to the Department of Labor Inspection, 13 to the Department of Road Transport, 10 to Health Services, 5 to Pharmaceutical Services, and 2 to the Environment Department.

The Consumer Protection Service has instructed economic operators who may possess or have already distributed these specific items to notify the relevant authorities immediately. This ongoing effort serves to maintain rigorous oversight of the local market and prevent further circulation of hazardous goods among the public.
