Connor Goldson discusses his past heart surgery and life in Cyprus

Apollon Limassol defender Connor Goldson recently gave an interview to the Open Goal podcast, reflecting on his professional career and the health challenges he overcame. The 33-year-old English footballer shared details regarding a major heart surgery he underwent when he was 24 years old while playing for Brighton.

Goldson recounted that the medical issue was discovered during routine screenings required for Brighton players. Despite feeling healthy and resisting the initial medical recommendation, he was pulled from a match against Huddersfield after a specialist confirmed the need for intervention. He vividly recalled his fears that his career was ending at that age, but noted that his surgeon’s confidence and explicit promise that he would return to the pitch within 12 weeks helped him remain optimistic.

Currently, Goldson resides in Cyprus where he plays for Apollon. He expressed a deep affection for his lifestyle on the island, noting that his perspective on life has shifted significantly since those earlier medical struggles, especially now that he is a father.
