Power outages affect multiple districts in Cyprus

On the evening of Monday, September 28, 2026, widespread power outages occurred across several districts in Cyprus, including Nicosia, Larnaca, and Limassol. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) confirmed that the interruptions were caused by technical faults within the medium-voltage network.

Specific areas impacted by the blackout include Strovolos and Ayios Demetrios in Nicosia, Aradippou in Larnaca, as well as Agios Athanasios, Mesa Geitonia, and Asgata in Limassol. Technical crews were immediately deployed to identify and repair the network damage to restore services.

While some sources indicated that electricity was expected to return within approximately two hours of the initial report, other updates from the EAC projected that restoration efforts would continue until 23:00 in certain affected zones. Authorities are currently working to manage the situation and fully reconnect all affected households and businesses to the grid.
