Power outages reported across Cyprus due to technical faults and road incidents

On September 28, 2026, several regions across Cyprus, including Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca, experienced power outages. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) attributed the disruption to medium-voltage network failures affecting areas such as Strovolos, Aradippou, Agios Athanasios, Asgata, and Mesa Geitonia. Repair crews were dispatched immediately to restore supply, with initial estimates suggesting recovery within a few hours for the affected districts.

Following these network failures, a separate incident occurred on September 29, 2026, on Tseriou Avenue in Nicosia. A pickup truck accidentally snagged and severed power lines while in motion, causing the cables to fall onto the roadway. Unlike the broader regional outages, this incident only resulted in a power cut for a single private residence. Police and EAC crews arrived at the scene to secure the area, address safety risks posed by the downed cables, and perform necessary repairs to the utility infrastructure.
