Larnaca shooting trial postponed to October 13

The trial concerning violent incidents and a shooting that took place in central Larnaca on January 17 has been postponed until October 13 by the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca. The case involves six defendants aged 20, 26, 26, 32, 33, and 48, who are facing serious charges including conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, extortion, and participation in a criminal organization.

Five of the six defendants have previously entered pleas of not guilty to the charges. The 33-year-old defendant did not enter a plea, as he was recently added to the indictment to be tried alongside the others. While the six appear before the court, police are still searching for two additional suspects, aged 26 and 27, who remain at large.

The incident, which occurred near the district police headquarters, originated from a confrontation linked to alleged demands for protection money. The ongoing legal proceedings follow a broad investigation into the violence, with authorities continuing their efforts to locate the outstanding suspects as the judicial process prepares to resume in mid-October.
