Turkey’s ministry-certified tourism accommodation capacity reaches 1.94 million beds

As of August 2026, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported that the country’s total licensed accommodation capacity reached 1,939,125 beds. This infrastructure is distributed across 21,608 facilities nationwide, encompassing a total of 928,638 rooms. These facilities operate under three categories: tourism operation licenses, tourism investment licenses, and basic accommodation tourism operation licenses.

Specifically, 8,768 facilities with tourism operation licenses provide 1,255,744 beds, 455 facilities with investment licenses offer 122,218 beds, and 12,385 basic accommodation facilities contribute 561,163 beds. Geographically, Antalya dominates the sector, hosting 2,764 facilities with 654,133 beds, which accounts for approximately 33.7% of the national total. Following Antalya, Istanbul ranks second with 272,731 beds, followed by Muğla with 243,256, Izmir with 94,936, Aydın with 58,675, and Ankara with 42,249 beds. While Antalya leads in capacity, Istanbul holds the highest number of individual facilities at 3,192.

The ministry also manages environmental standards through an 'environmentally friendly facility' certification program, aimed at businesses that demonstrate commitment to ecological protection. These statistics highlight the concentration of the Turkish tourism industry in coastal regions, particularly the Mediterranean.
