Religious calendar commemorations for September 28 and 29

On September 28, the church honors Saint Chariton the Confessor, a figure born in Iconium during the reign of Emperor Aurelian (270–275 AD). Initially imprisoned for his Christian faith, he was released after the emperor's death by his successor, Probus. Chariton subsequently moved to Jerusalem, living as an ascetic in caves and establishing major monastic communities (lauras) in Phara and Souka. September 28 is also recognized as World Rabies Day.

The following day, September 29, is dedicated to the memory of Saint Kyriakos the Anchorite. Born in Corinth in the 5th century to a priestly family, Kyriakos traveled to Jerusalem in his youth. He trained under Saint Euthymius and Saint Gerasimos before eventually settling at the Lavra of Souka. At age 40, he was ordained a priest and served as the sacristan. Known for his patience and gentle demeanor, he spent his later years traveling between various monasteries and hermitages to maintain a life of strict asceticism.
