Paphos mayor trial continues with prosecution witnesses

The trial of Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos, who is currently suspended from his duties, continues at the Paphos Criminal Court. The proceedings, which have been held behind closed doors since late July at the request of the prosecution, involve over 15 witnesses who have already testified, including police investigators, experts, and colleagues of the complainant.

Phedonos faces five criminal charges, including rape, indecent assault, indecent assault involving another act, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and the administration of a substance capable of neutralizing a person's resistance. The accused has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. With most prosecution witnesses having finished their testimonies, fewer than five remain to be called.

The next crucial stage of the trial will be the testimony of the complainant herself. Due to the sensitive nature of the proceedings, it is reported that she will testify via videoconference from a separate room within the courthouse. The court will proceed to the next phase of the trial once the remaining prosecution witnesses are heard.
