Seventeen-year-old driver arrested following police chase in Nicosia

A 17-year-old driver was arrested on Monday in Nicosia after leading police on a chase that resulted in a road accident. The incident began around 10:45-11:00, when a police officer attempted to stop the teenager’s vehicle near the University roundabout in Aglantzia for a routine inspection. Instead of complying, the minor accelerated and attempted to evade the authorities by driving dangerously through the city streets.

During the pursuit, the teenager collided with a car driven by a woman, forcing her vehicle onto the sidewalk where it hit a metal bollard and a lamppost. The woman was transported to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment, where she received first aid for neck injuries before being discharged. Following the crash, police searched the suspect's vehicle and discovered a quantity of substances believed to be illegal drugs. The minor subsequently tested positive in a preliminary drug test for cannabis and cocaine, while both drivers tested negative for alcohol. The teenager remains in custody as investigations continue.
