Bank of Cyprus earns spot in Forbes world's top performing banks ranking
The Bank of Cyprus has been recognized as one of the world's top-performing financial institutions, securing 19th place among 102 mid-sized banks in the inaugural 'World’s Top Performing Banks 2026' ranking published by Forbes in partnership with Statista. It remains the only Cypriot banking institution to appear on this global list, which evaluates 500 banks across 89 countries.
The ranking categorizes institutions based on balance sheet size to ensure comparability. The Bank of Cyprus was placed in the Tier 4 category, which encompasses lenders with total assets ranging between $20 billion and $50 billion. According to Forbes, the bank currently holds approximately $27.4 billion in assets, generating $1.4 billion in revenue and $549.7 million in profit.
Evaluation for this ranking relied exclusively on objective financial metrics rather than customer surveys. The assessment focused on four key parameters: profitability (30%), growth and quality of earnings (20%), capital and funding resilience (25%), and asset quality and efficiency (25%). This methodology represents a shift from previous Forbes rankings that prioritized consumer feedback, providing a purely data-driven analysis of global banking performance.
