Cyprus to hold upgraded independence day parade featuring new military hardware

The Republic of Cyprus is set to mark the 66th anniversary of its independence on October 1, 2026, with an upgraded military parade on Iosif Hadjiosif Avenue in Nicosia. The event, scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, will feature a significant increase in personnel and equipment compared to previous years, reflecting the strengthened defense partnerships of the country.

A highlight of the display is the first public presentation of the newly acquired BARAK MX anti-aircraft system, alongside a newly established National Guard drone unit. These units include various unmanned aerial and maritime systems, including FPV drones and a mobile production unit designed to enhance field maintenance capabilities. The aerial portion of the parade will feature Greek Air Force F-16 Viper fighter jets, alongside an Egyptian Air Force Airbus C295 transport aircraft.

International participation is a key focus, with military contingents from Egypt, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States set to march alongside the National Guard. Notably, US Marines stationed on the destroyer Roosevelt are among the foreign forces attending. These rehearsals and demonstrations reflect a broader strategy to modernize the National Guard and deepen regional military cooperation, according to the Ministry of Defence.
