FIFA accuses UEFA of disinformation campaign in US court filing

FIFA has formally requested a federal court in the Southern District of Florida to reject a motion by UEFA seeking access to evidence regarding a controversial proposal to transfer World Cup commercial rights. The dispute stems from an abandoned plan to move these rights to a subsidiary known as FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). Last month, UEFA filed for legal permission to obtain depositions and documents in the U.S., intending to use the material for a criminal complaint in Switzerland against FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

In its latest court submission, FIFA dismissed the allegations as part of a bad-faith campaign aimed at harassment. The governing body argued that UEFA’s filings contain numerous false and misleading statements intended to influence the upcoming FIFA presidential election scheduled for next year, in which Infantino is currently the sole candidate. FIFA maintains that these judicial actions are politically motivated tactics rather than legitimate inquiries into the past business proposal.
