Thanos Hotels and Resorts joins island-wide cleanup initiative in Cyprus

On Friday, September 25, 2026, staff from Thanos Hotels and Resorts participated in the 'Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Destination' initiative. The event, held in observance of World Tourism Day, aimed to protect Cyprus's natural environment and promote ecological awareness among the public and the hospitality sector.

The initiative was organized by the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) with the support of the Cyprus Hotels Association (PASYXE) and under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. It is part of the 'Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free – Destination Zero Waste Cyprus and Greece' program. This movement has seen consistent growth in participation over recent years; in 2024, it involved 60 organizations and 1,650 participants, while 2025 saw those figures rise to 75 organizations and over 2,250 volunteers, who successfully removed 2.3 tons of waste from the environment.

By engaging in such collective actions, local businesses seek to solidify their commitment to sustainable hospitality and responsible tourism. The annual event continues to expand its reach and impact across the island, encouraging further private sector involvement in waste reduction and environmental protection efforts.
