Ukrainian influencers face investigation after harming sea turtle in Oman

A 32-year-old Ukrainian athlete, Vadym Oliynyk, and his partner, Olena Kravchenko, have sparked global outrage after being filmed sitting on a nesting sea turtle in the Ras al Hadd region of Oman. The incident, which occurred in late September 2026, involved the couple taking turns sitting on the animal's shell and flashing victory signs while it was in the process of laying eggs. Reports also indicate the couple handled newborn hatchlings, which is strictly prohibited.

Footage of the event went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation from the public and animal welfare advocates. The video showed the turtle struggling to move across the sand under the weight of the influencers. Following the intense backlash, Oliynyk issued an apology, claiming he was unaware of the local environmental regulations regarding the protected species.
