Police investigation follows failed bomb attack in Limassol

On the morning of September 30, 2026, police in Limassol, Cyprus, were alerted to a security incident in the Mesa Geitonia area. At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responding to reports of suspicious activity encountered an individual riding a high-powered motorcycle without registration plates near a commercial building. When officers approached, the suspect fled the scene, triggering a pursuit that ultimately failed to apprehend the individual.

Following the chase, authorities inspected the site and discovered a high-powered improvised explosive device placed outside the entrance of a building. While some initial reports described the location as a telecommunications company office and others as a shop, all sources confirm the device failed to detonate. A police pyrotechnician was dispatched to the scene and successfully deactivated the bomb.

The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) has launched a formal investigation into the incident to identify the suspect and determine the circumstances surrounding the attempted attack. The area was cordoned off for forensic evidence collection, and investigations remain ongoing to locate the motorcyclist involved in the failed bombing.
