Students visit animal shelter in Geroskipou for World Animal Day

Approximately 45 students from the 1st Primary School of Geroskipou and the 2nd Primary School of Paphos-Dimitreion visited the PAWS shelter, operated by the C.A.P.C.A. organization in Acheleia, on September 30, 2026. The visit was part of the educational initiative "Knowing pets – Learning about their care," organized by the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, in collaboration with the municipalities of Geroskipou and Paphos.

The initiative was held in anticipation of World Animal Day, which is celebrated annually on October 4. During the tour, Senior Veterinary Officer Elena Georgiou instructed the children on the responsibilities associated with pet ownership, including the importance of microchipping, sterilization, and the proper ways to approach and handle animals. The students engaged in discussions about the emotional experiences of abandoned animals, emphasizing safety, trust, and the long-term commitment required when caring for a pet.
