Nicosia traffic changes due to inner moat redevelopment

The Nicosia Municipality has announced that as of Monday, October 5, 2026, the first phase of the 'Inner Perimeter Moat Redevelopment' project enters a new stage. Construction Segment A2 will be reopened to vehicular traffic, specifically the lane exiting Thermopylon Street toward the 'OXI' roundabout. This adjustment facilitates direct access from the walled city to Stasinou Avenue and Eleftheria Square.

Despite this partial reopening, traffic restrictions remain in effect across other project areas as construction continues toward a planned completion in early 2027. Construction Segment A3, stretching from the OXI roundabout to the entrance of the Kostanza Bastion municipal parking, will remain closed to vehicles until at least mid-December 2026. Furthermore, the western section of Xanthis Xenierou Street will continue to operate as a dead-end with two-way traffic routed from Areos Street. Motorists are advised that these configurations are temporary and will persist until the entire project is finished.
