Nicosia traffic disruptions and construction projects starting October 5
Several major construction projects in Nicosia will begin or enter new phases on Monday, October 5, 2026, causing significant traffic adjustments across the city. The regeneration project of the inner perimeter arch of the moat enters a new phase, with the reopening of construction section A2, the exit lane from Thermopylon Street toward the Oxi roundabout. However, section A3 remains closed until mid-December 2026, with the overall project scheduled for completion in early 2027.
Simultaneously, the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation is launching a 28-week project to repair and reinforce the 50-year-old stormwater culvert beneath Digenis Akritas Avenue, between Kallipoleos and Larnakos avenues. This essential infrastructure work, costing approximately 2.26 million euros plus VAT, aims to ensure road stability but will require phased lane closures. The first phase of this project is expected to conclude on December 4, 2026. Furthermore, asphalt repairs in the Agios Georgios government settlement will take place from October 5 to October 13, 2026, affecting several local streets.
Authorities have advised drivers to follow signage and traffic instructions, noting that these measures are necessary for public safety and infrastructure integrity. Detailed updates regarding future phases of the Digenis Akritas project will be provided as work progresses.
