Anorthosis awaits CAS decision on unpaid fees for Chico Banza

Anorthosis Famagusta is awaiting a definitive ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding an outstanding financial dispute with the Portuguese club Portimonense concerning the transfer of Angolan winger Chico Banza. The conflict originated in August 2024, when the player joined Portimonense on a loan agreement that included a purchase option. Although Portimonense activated the clause to acquire the player, they failed to meet the payment deadlines of 150,000 euros for the purchase and approximately 8,000 euros for the loan fee, with the initial cutoff date set for February 20, 2025.

Following the missed payments, Anorthosis filed a complaint with FIFA in March 2025. FIFA initially ruled in favor of the Cypriot club, awarding them 158,000 euros plus an annual interest rate of 15%. Portimonense subsequently appealed this decision to CAS, effectively putting the payment on hold. The total claim, including accrued interest, now approaches 250,000 euros. While the hearing at CAS concluded recently, the club continues to wait for the final verdict to confirm the recovery of these funds.
