Cyprus weather warning issued as storms and unstable conditions persist
The Department of Meteorology in Cyprus has issued a yellow weather warning effective from 12:00 to 18:00 on September 30 and October 1, 2026. The alert, which specifically targets mountainous, northern, and inland areas, warns of isolated severe thunderstorms, potential hail, and gusty winds reaching 5 to 6 on the Beaufort scale. Rainfall intensity is expected to range between 35 and 50 millimeters per hour in affected areas, with temperatures remaining below seasonal averages.
Unstable weather conditions, characterized by low pressure, are forecasted to persist across the island until at least the beginning of the following week. While some coastal regions may experience morning showers, the heaviest activity is generally expected to develop during the afternoon hours. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant, as the unsettled pattern of rain and localized storms will continue to influence various parts of the island, including the Troodos mountains and western districts, throughout the upcoming weekend.
