Annita Dimitriou addresses party tensions and Cyprus negotiations

Following a session of the National Council on September 30, 2026, DISY President Annita Dimitriou addressed both the current state of Cyprus negotiations and internal party controversies. Regarding the Cyprus issue, Dimitriou acknowledged that recent diplomatic efforts at the United Nations General Assembly did not yield the desired outcomes, stressing that the focus must remain on creating conditions for meaningful, substantive negotiations. She noted that upcoming diplomatic moves will involve Maria Angela Holguin, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General.

Simultaneously, Dimitriou faced questions regarding a controversial private dinner involving her, Averof Neofytou, Chris Panagiotou, and the director of the newspaper 'Politis'. Avoiding specific confirmation or detailed comment, she emphasized her priority of protecting the political party through established democratic processes. Dimitriou stated that party members will ultimately decide and articulate their positions, dismissing further public debate on the matter as unnecessary for the time being. She underscored that her primary role is to preserve the level of political discourse within DISY during this critical juncture.
