Larnaca Criminal Court acquits three men in 2025 attempted murder case

On September 30, 2026, the Larnaca Criminal Court acquitted three Syrian nationals, aged 24, 25, and 27, of all charges related to the attempted murder of a 30-year-old compatriot in Kornos on January 9, 2025. The victim was shot during the incident and subsequently sought medical attention at a private clinic in Limassol.

The prosecution had accused the three men of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms and explosives. The state's case relied on circumstantial evidence, specifically linking the defendants to two vehicles allegedly involved in the attack, one of which was recovered abandoned in Alethriko. However, the court ruled that the evidence was insufficient to prove the defendants were occupants of the getaway car or accomplices in the crime. The presiding judges noted that the prosecution failed to place the third defendant at or near the crime scene, and the court ultimately concluded that the identity of the actual perpetrators remains unknown.

Following the verdict, all three defendants were cleared of the six charges against them. The case concludes with the acquittal, as the court found no safe basis for a conviction.
