US Ambassador describes ties with Cyprus as best in history

At the 2026 Cyprus Forum in Nicosia, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, John Breslow, declared that the bilateral relations between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus are currently at their historical peak. Ambassador Breslow, who officially presented his credentials to President Nikos Christodoulides on September 9, 2026, highlighted that this progress is built upon a foundation of defense, energy, and investment cooperation, supported by agreements such as the 2018 Joint Statement of Intent, the 2019 Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act, and the 2024 strategic defense roadmap.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, the Ambassador reaffirmed Washington's support for a reunification process based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality, in alignment with United Nations Security Council resolutions. He also identified new opportunities for economic cooperation while noting potential areas for diplomatic dialogue concerning European Union regulations. He expressed a commitment to leveraging this strong partnership to explore long-term strategic goals for both nations.
