Cyprus and India strengthen maritime and infrastructure cooperation

Cyprus and India are actively expanding their bilateral cooperation, focusing on air connectivity, maritime infrastructure, and strategic partnerships. On September 29, 2026, the inaugural meeting of the Cyprus–India Joint Maritime Committee took place in Limassol, co-chaired by Theodoulos Mesimeris of the Cypriot Shipping Deputy Ministry and Venkatesapathy S. from India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The discussions, held under the 2017 Bilateral Agreement on Merchant Shipping, prioritized maritime education, training, and the exchange of industry best practices.

Simultaneously, Cypriot Transport Minister Evie Tsolaki held talks with Indian High Commissioner Manish Manish to coordinate efforts on broader connectivity projects. These discussions are part of a wider strategic plan to bolster economic links between the two nations. As part of this diplomatic momentum, Minister Tsolaki is scheduled to visit India in early October 2026. Her itinerary includes official bilateral meetings and her participation in the ‘Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue 2026’, an event co-hosted by the Indian government and the Observer Research Foundation, aimed at deepening practical maritime and logistical ties.
