Limassol advances affordable housing projects with new developments

On September 30, 2026, Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis and the Cyprus Land Development Corporation (Koag) announced progress on the 'Affordable Housing' project in the Ayios Nicolaos district. During a site visit to Ayias Aikaterinis street, officials confirmed that the first phase, consisting of 36 two-bedroom apartments, is now expected to be completed by early summer 2027. This represents a minor delay from the original March 2027 deadline.

The project required the demolition of older buildings and the relocation of residents, a process that will be repeated to facilitate the construction of three additional apartment buildings, totaling 136 units in this specific development. Mayor Armeftis emphasized that the project is supported by urban development offsets, which ensure its financial sustainability. Furthermore, the municipality is preparing an architectural ideas competition aimed at developing 400 additional affordable housing units to combat the city's housing shortage.

Moving forward, the municipality and the new board of Koag, led by chairman Nicolas Diomidous, intend to strengthen their cooperation. The current strategy aims to provide accessible living spaces to address rising costs and support vulnerable groups, with future plans involving the phased relocation of residents to make room for further residential expansion.
