Paralympic athlete Stelios Malakopoulos shares his story with students in Cyprus

Greek Paralympic athlete Stelios Malakopoulos visited Cyprus this week to share his personal experience and message of resilience with local youth, following his historic achievement at the World Paratriathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. There, he secured a bronze medal, marking the first such honor for Greece in the competition's history. His visit was organized by AHEPA Cyprus, with appearances on television and at the Acropolis High School.

During his interactions with students, Malakopoulos reflected on the turning point of his life at age 18, when a car accident caused by alcohol consumption led to the double amputation of his lower limbs. He described the difficult road to recovery, from using crutches to regaining the ability to walk with prosthetics. He emphasized the importance of road safety and mindful decision-making to the students. By channeling his experiences into athletics, he has since built a successful career in track and field, serving as an inspiration to others.
