Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals jersey sells for record $12.3 million

A game-worn jersey belonging to basketball legend Michael Jordan has set a new world record for sports memorabilia after selling at auction for $12.3 million. The item, which Jordan wore during the third game of the 1998 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz, significantly exceeded the price of previous high-value sales.

This sale surpasses the previous record for a Michael Jordan jersey, which was established in 2022 when another jersey from the same 1998 NBA Finals series was auctioned for $10.1 million. The seller, Rob Gough, noted that he viewed himself as a temporary steward of such historical sports items, as he moves on to focus on his new business venture, the Miami-based World Jai Alai League.
