British tourists injured in motorcycle crash in Protaras
A 54-year-old British tourist is in critical condition following a motorcycle accident on Wednesday afternoon in the Famagusta district. The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the Cape Greco-Protaras Avenue when the rider lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to strike the sidewalk and overturn. The man was accompanied by a 49-year-old female passenger, also from the United Kingdom.
Both individuals were initially transported by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital. The woman was diagnosed with a fractured tibia and remains hospitalized. The 54-year-old man, who suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage along with various other injuries and fractures, was intubated and transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital due to the severity of his condition. He is currently being treated in the intensive care unit.
The Ayia Napa police station is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials from the police communications branch confirmed the details of the incident, noting that the investigation into why the driver lost control of the vehicle remains ongoing.
