Cyprus celebrates 66 years of independence
On October 1, 2026, Cyprus marked the 66th anniversary of its independence. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that this day serves as an opportunity for national reflection on the achievements of the Republic since its founding and the path forward. He emphasized the government's duty to build a more modern and resilient state for future generations, noting that the resolution of the Cyprus issue remains the core priority guiding all current administration actions.
The Presidency of the Republic also issued a statement honoring the anniversary, describing the founding of the state as the most significant achievement of the Cypriot people. This accomplishment is rooted in the long-standing struggles of the nation, which culminated in the EOKA liberation and anti-colonial movement. The Presidency reaffirmed that protecting and upgrading the standing of the Republic of Cyprus remains the country's highest priority. The government stresses the need for continued investment in the state's strength and stability as it navigates future challenges.
