Woman files lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson in Cyprus for health complications
A young woman in Cyprus has initiated legal proceedings against multinational corporation Johnson & Johnson, seeking over €2 million in damages. The claimant alleges that the daily, long-term use of the company’s baby powder from childhood through adulthood caused her to develop mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer, as well as additional gynecological health complications.
Legal counsel for the woman has submitted a formal demand letter to the manufacturer, supported by extensive medical records and photographic evidence of multiple surgeries necessitated by her condition. If the company fails to respond to these demands, a formal lawsuit will be filed with the Cypriot courts. While this is the first such case in Cyprus, the company has faced extensive litigation regarding its talc-based products in international jurisdictions for many years.
The claimant maintains that the product use resulted in severe, irreversible health consequences and significant financial losses. The case highlights ongoing international controversies surrounding the safety of the company’s products, with legal teams now preparing for potential courtroom proceedings in the Cypriot legal system.
