Recent fire incidents in Cyprus: Restaurant fire in Limassol and residential blaze in Paphos
On October 1, 2026, a fire broke out at a restaurant located on the ground floor of a five-storey building on Paphos Avenue in Limassol. The blaze, which began at 9:27 am, was attributed to the ignition of accumulated grease within the ventilation chimneys. Emergency crews, including four fire engines and a hydraulic telescopic platform, managed to bring the fire under control by 11:30 am. One restaurant employee, who was inside preparing for the day, safely evacuated the premises upon noticing the flames. The incident caused extensive damage to the chimneys, external rooftop equipment, parts of the electrical installation, and the building's paintwork.
Separately, in the Paphos district, a fire completely destroyed a residential mobile home in the community of Amargeti on October 3. Authorities stated that initial investigations point to an electrical appliance that was left powered on. Additionally, a wildfire occurred on October 4 between the communities of Nata and Anarita, burning seven decares of dry grass and stubble across two separate fronts. Firefighting forces from the Fire Service, Forestry Department, and Game Fund successfully brought the wildfire under control. Investigations into the exact causes of these recent incidents are ongoing.
